The Reason Is Always Mine

Having known enough of Death, I have come to realize, though the time and place be his, the reason is always mine. I hope to die as I have lived, free in spirit and free in mind. True to family and true to friends, love forsaken is but a crime. When constrained by walls of violence, I refused to serve my time, my wounds I bore in silence, defense of liberty is not a mime. Words were my window into the landscape of life, but they gave me more than vision, they were my voice amidst the strife.

If many times I found God, many times we parted ways, but only to meet again, on the following day. His lesson never changed, but only pain taught me to see, that the embodiment of love was a simple Nazarene. His cross was his alone, but mine was also his, for my strength was not my own, my courage always his. The times my heart was stilled and I saw what is unseen, the times I battled evil fit for nightmares not for dreams, the fear was mine alone, the bravery always his.

So if the present I now speak as if the past was my life, understand that no true warrior fights a battle once or twice. The past is always present when your battle scars run deep, a soldier never leaves the battlefield of his dreams. So much have I yet to live, so much is unfulfilled, that hardly can I believe, the end is coming still. But one day it shall arrive, and ready I must be, to face the nemesis that from birth, has laid a siege on me. For having known enough of Death, I have come to realize, though the time and place be his, the reason is always mine.
