Shine On You Crazy Diamond

London attracts so many talented individuals from all over the world that even a mundane excursion through a subway station can become an unexpected cultural experience. I had gone for a walk along the Thames and when I headed towards Tower Hill subway station, I came across a street performer who literally stopped me on my tracks. His name was Azill and he was a Belgian guitarist who called himself a one-man classic rock band.

I took out my cell phone and filmed his rendition of Pink Floyd’s “Shine On You Crazy Diamond”. This is a song that I listened to when I was a kid, in an age of innocence when I couldn’t possibly understand what the lyrics meant or how this song would one day relate to my life. There is certainly nothing like music to ignite old memories. Shine on Azill, you crazy diamond.
