Bono Malum Superate

A soldier only leaves the battlefield after burying the memories of his fallen brothers, and rediscovering joy in life. Their names will never be forgotten, but their pain must be silenced for once. What remains of his days can only be enjoyed by accepting what he cannot change. Why some experienced more pain than others is an inscrutable question that he may never answer. Split second decisions are replayed in his mind as time stands still, but the past is relived only to die again. Pulling a trigger is a moral choice never to be made in vain. There comes a time when the gunfire must be silenced so that life can resume again. Only joy honors the fallen, sorrow leads to pain. The only true glory to be had in war is that it should one day forever end.
